The Flin Flon Bombers hit the road for their two-game road trip before the Christmas break, and the boys were hoping to come out on top both games to give them a five-game winning streak. The Maroon and White shot down the Battlefords North Stars 5-1 Friday night, giving them their fourth win in a row. The Civic Centre saw 535 fans come out in hopes of seeing the home North Stars take down the visiting Bombers, but Flin Flon ruined their fun as they lit the scoreboard three times in the first period. The Bombers outshot the North Stars 36-27. Calvin Bartel stood strong between the pipes Friday night as the first period saw the Bombers come out strong as Myles Masse broke the goose egg after 7:47 of play with help from linemates Pierre-Luc Boucher and Dennis Kubat. The North Stars made 10 attempts during the first period, but Bartel was sturdy and didn't let anything past him. Barrett Penner found the back of the net less than 10 minutes later as Boucher and David Linsley assisted Penner in lighting the scoreboard. With the score 2-0, Dustyn Clegg, assisted by Michael Young, scored the third and final goal of the period, giving the Bombers a 3-0 advantage over the home team. And Penner was called on roughing after the whistle. Reid MacLeod was called on crosschecking while teammate Jean-Sebastien Bergeron was put away for fighting. At the same time, North Star Bo Lenard was given two minutes for roughing and five minutes for fighting. The second period saw both Bartel and Kerpan stop 11 shots, as the Bombers had a two period total of 23, while the North Stars had 21. The third period had more action as the North Stars got themselves on the board and the Bombers continued their success. Battlefords scored their first goal of the night after 5:42 of play as Budd got one past Bartel, but five minutes later Clegg scored his second of the night, with help from Kubat on a short handed goal. With the score 4-1, Penner got back up as he put one past Kerpan, assisted by Kubat and Linsley, to make the score 5-1 for the visiting Maroon and White. Both teams saw six penalties against them by the end of the third period. Jesse Leberton was given two minutes for slashing and MacLeod saw the inside of the box after elbowing and unsportsmanlike conduct, giving him two minutes for each. Young was called on fighting and sentenced to five minutes behind the glass, as was North Star Wall. Young was called on again as he sat out for two minutes for roughing.
