There is good news for the Flin Flon Bombers and its fans as Blake McCullough is on the road to recovery. "It's a long process and you don't see consistency," McCullough said, during a phone interview from Calgary, regarding his knee. The Bombers defenceman can walk without crutches and can bend his leg backwards 90 degrees, but hasn't started strengthening it until he has full range of motion. "After the playoffs are done I still have two months of rehab," McCullough said. The 6-2, 191 pound defenceman returned to Alberta to get the best rehab possible. Right now McCullough is working on his flexibility and he's being pushed hard by an athletics therapist who works for the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. McCullough's doctor knows the therapist and arranged for the two to work together. The Bombers captain also does exercises in a swimming pool on his own. "Overall, I'm pretty positive. I've lost this year, but I've got five months to get ready for next year," he said, which puts an end to any thoughts that his injury might have been career threatening. McCullough said the rehab will help his knee be stronger than before. Bombers coach-GM, Doug Stokes, has kept in touch with his player during the process. "From the doctor's report, it's healing exactly how they felt it would and things are coming along very well," Stokes said. McCullough sustained the injury during a Nov. 29 game in Nipawin. Before his injury, McCullough led the team with 120 penalty minutes in 29 games while collecting five assists. McCullough will be returning to Flin Flon tomorrow and will stay until the Bombers playoff season is done. "I will come and support the guys," McCullough said. "I'm looking forward to the playoffs for the team and the city. It will be pretty wild."2/13/2006
