The Flin Flon Bombers won a lopsided matchup with the defending league champion Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday night, winning 8-2 on home ice.
Flin Flon has been one of the hottest teams in the league as of late, finishing first in this week's SJHL power ranking. The Bombers wasted no time to justify their high ranking, with Mason Etter opening the score less than two minutes into the game.
Only three Bomber players didn't get a point in the win, which extends the team's point streak to nine games. Six players got two points, including former Mustang Teal Sobkowicz, playing in his second game with the Bombers since being picked up at the trade deadline.
Miles Warkentine was the only Mustang to score, potting two goals. For the rest of the game, Brenden Newton was impermeable in the Bomber crease. Newton made 22 saves for the win, while Warkentine was ejected in the third after hitting a Bomber with an illegal headshot.
Both Mustang goalies saw crease time in Tuesday's game. In what is becoming a common sight at Bomber games this year, Mustang starter Evan Plotnik was pulled from the net in the second period, replaced with backup Derrick Hucul. The two combined for 40 saves on 48 shots.
The Bombers increased their Sherwood Division lead once again with the win, getting their season total up to 63 points. The Bombers are 10 points clear of Nipawin for the division lead, but are 10 points behind the Battlefords North Stars for the league's top spot.
The Bombers put their point streak on the line on Saturday against the last-place La Ronge Ice Wolves. The game will be at the Whitney Forum, with puck drop set for 7:30.
