Coming off a three-game winning streak in which they outscored their opponents 15-3, the Flin Flon Bombers couldn't continue the magic Wednesday night in Melville. Despite firing off nearly twice as many shots as the Millionaires, the Bombers were bested 5-3 by one of the SJHL's top-scoring teams. A dismal 0-7 power play and a stalwart performance from Melville's goaltending kept Flin Flon out of the win column, though the Bombers still ended the night with the most wins in the league. Melville's Cody Hanson, with an assist from Michael Jordan, opened the scoring at 2:59 of the opening period, giving the Millionaires a lead they would take into the first intermission. Flin Flon's Shane Goodrunning (Tanner Korchinski, Doug McLeod) got the Bombers on the scoreboard just past the halfway mark of the second period. Devin Mitzner (Matt Lecours) followed up a little over a minute later to earn the Maroon and White their first and only lead of the game. Melville's Michael Desjarlais (Mark Owen, Logan Herauf) tied things up at 14:17. Heading into the second intermission, it was anybody's game. The Millionaires came out strong in the final frame. By the 8:37 mark, Aaron Decorby (Dane Bonish, Herauf) and Michael Rogoschewsky (Tyson Melynchuk, Ryin Allison) had slipped pucks past Bomber goalkeeper Klynt Spencer. With less than two minutes to go, Michael Young (Mike Rey) earned a shorthanded tally to put Flin Flon within one goal of evening things up. It was not meant to be. Rogoschewsky (Matt Kinnunen) added his second goal of the night at 19:31, letting the underdog Millionaires cash out with a victory. Flin Flon peppered Melville netminders Brady Wilyman, pulled with a little over seven minutes to go, and Zach Rakochy with 43 shots. Spencer faced just 22 attempts. Melville was nearly as disappointing as Flin Flon on the powerplay, going 0-4 with the man advantage. Millionaires Rogoschewsky, Hanson and Wilyman were the first, second and third stars of the night, earning the esteem of the 433 fans in attendance. Flin Flon gets a rematch tomorrow night, this time at the Whitney Forum, when they host the Millionaires.
