Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Bombers picked up one of two points Tuesday night in their first game back to the SJHL since the Christmas break. Earning one point as they headed into overtime with the Battlefords North Stars, it was a scoreless fourth period as the contest then headed into a shootout. A final score of 4-3, the home team took the two points with one goal in the four-round shootout. Dillan McCombie picked up where he left off before the Christmas break as he opened the scoring for the Bombers with their first goal of the game at 5:19 in the opening period. With help from Brett Penner and Cam Blair, the Bombers were up 1-0. Keeping the lead to the middle of the period the North Stars then tied the game at 12:08 with their first goalÊ_ a marker by Zach MacLellan. The home team picked up the pace in the second period as they scored their second goal of the night, on a power play, at 11:09 as Roger Tagoona made his way past Devin Buffalo. Bomber Captain David Roper was on pace for the second goal as he tied the game with a marker at 17:19. Ending out the second period, the North Stars called their last goal of regulation time as Woody Klassen made his way to the back of the net at 18:54. Konrad Litke was in the zone at 14:57 of the third period as his shot tied the game, once again, for the Bombers. Sitting at 3-3, the teams headed into a five-minute overtime. With five shots from the North Stars and two from the Bombers there wasn't much chance for a win in the fourth period of the game. Unable to score, the teams prepared for their shootout. Taking center ice first, the North Stars sent Klassen as their first shooter. Buffalo was a wall throughout the three rounds of the shootout as he denied Klassen, Tagoona and Tanner Schwab. Taking turns between the North Stars, Bombers McCombie, Dylan Balaski and Jay Young came up empty-handed in the shootout. North Star Blake Tatchell was the lone scorer of the shootout as Brandt Weldon was unable to make it past Graham Hildebrand for the tie. Earning two points from the win, the North Stars sat in first place of the Bauer Conference, following Tuesday's game, with 60 points. The Bombers, 11 points behind, sat in third place of the same conference with 49 points. Wednesday night, the Bombers travelled to La Ronge to face the Ice Wolves for the first time since their double header weekend November 25 and 26. Earning a loss and a shootout loss in the Fall the Bombers were looking for revenge.
