For the first time in the 2004/05 hockey season, the Flin Flon Bombers avoided adding another notch in the loss column, skating to a 3-3 tie with the Melville Millionaires. Clayton Geiger answered the call for Flin Flon, scoring a goal and assisting on another in only his second game of the season. Bear Trapp scored with 1:26 remaining in the third period to salvage a tie for the Millionaires. Joey Moggach became just the second Bomber player to score his second goal of the season when he opened the scoring at 4:33 of the first period. Geiger had the lone assist. Kai Magnussen replied at 8:46 to tie the game for the Mills', who out shot the Bombers 29-17 in the opening frame. Geiger made it 2-1 for Flin Flon with a power-play goal at 9:10 of the second frame, with Bradey Fidierchuk and Tyler Beachell assisting, making Geiger just the fifth Bomber to score a goal this season. Blake Rolston became the first rookie to find the back of the net, scoring at 11:04 from Clete Mastad and Richard Dupre to put the Bombers ahead 3-1. However, Michael Zulyniak brought the Millionaires within one goal at 17:33 of the second period. Trapp's goal with under 90 seconds to go was the only goal of the third period, and nothing was solved in overtime, although the Bombers did have to kill two penalties in overtime, one that carried over from the third period and a bench minor for too-many-men. Goaltender Francois Laverdiere had to be sharp, making 62 saves in the game, as the team was out shot 65-41. The Bombers managed one power-play goal on five chances, and their penalty killing was perfect, as the Millionaires failed to score on ten chances with the extra attacker. The tie puts Flin Flon's record at 0-4-1, better than Melfort's 0-5-0, and one point behind the Battlefords' North Stars who have a win and four losses. Flin Flon's next test will be a rematch with the Estevan Bruins, who pounded the Bombers 6-1 on Saturday evening in Saskatoon. The Bruins will be visiting the Whitney Forum on Friday for a game at 7:30 p.m.
