Bombers annihilate Ice Wolves in 9-2 blowout

Friday night saw the Flin Flon Bombers challenge the La Ronge Ice Wolves in a rescheduled game and take them down 9-2 at the Whitney Forum. More than 850 fans went out Friday night to see Bomber Dustyn Clegg score his first hat trick of the season. SJHL scoring leader Reid MacLeod scored a hat trick as well, while Pierre-Luc Boucher had three assists. Myles Masse picked up three assists and Brennan Cox helped on two goals. The game started off with the Bombers scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes of play. Boucher found the back of the net after 7:53, assisted by Masse and Cole Wilson. MacLeod was next to light the lantern to make the score 2-0, at the 9:47 mark. Helping with MacLeod's goal were linemates Masse and Clegg. The Bombers gave themselves a bigger comfort zone as MacLeod put another one in the net on a power play with help from captain Dennis Kubat and Boucher. The first period saw a number of penalties for both teams. For the Bombers, Barrett Penner was called on hooking and roughing after the whistle, a penalty served by Boucher. Michael Denis sat out for five minutes for fighting. The Ice Wolves saw Sterling Bear in the box for elbowing, Joel Belair sat out for roughing after the whistle and Jeff Ratt was given a two minute penalty for instigating, five minutes for fighting and a 10 minute misconduct. Calvin Bartel stopped eight shots in the first period, while the Bombers had 12 shots on the opposing net. The second period had a few more scoring opportunities for the Bombers as they found the back of the net another three times. With a score of 3-0 going into the second period, Bomber David Linsley scored the only goal of the period, which was unassisted at 14:30. The second 20 minutes of play saw a few penalties for both teams. Bomber J.M. Allard was given two minutes in the sin bin for slashing, while Cox was called for hooking. La Ronge's Jonathan Jobin was given two minutes for slashing and teammate David Lawrence was given two minutes for interference. The third period had the scoring start off quickly as Bomber Clegg put another goal on the board to make it 5-0. Helping on Clegg's first of three goals, was Boucher. At 3:19 Cameron MacKinnon made it 6-0 for the Maroon and White with the help of Cox and Dominic Martel. A few minutes later, Clegg scored his second of the night. Assisting were linemates Linsley and Cox. The Ice Wolves finally found their skates as they broke Bartel's shutout, making it 7-1 at 10:47. Four minutes later Clegg notched his third marker, giving him his first hat trick of the season, to make the score 8-1. Helping with Clegg's third goal were Linsley and Michael Young. La Ronge scored their second goal of the night as Jordie Johnston got an unassisted goal past Bartel. And just when fans thought the scoring was over, MacLeod snuck one past La Ronge with the help of Masse and Young. The third period also saw some penalties before the game was over. La Ronge had Bruno-Pier Gosselin in the box for five minutes for fighting; Bear was given two minutes for interference; and Ratt was given a 10 minute game misconduct, two minutes for being an aggressor, five minutes for high sticking and five minutes for fighting. Joseph Cook was called on both fighting and goaltender interference. Teammate Chris Junawirth was given two minutes for high sticking. The Bombers saw Allard in the box for fighting, two minutes for instigating and a 10 minute game misconduct. MacKinnon was called on hooking while Jean Sebestien Bergeron was given a 10 minute misconduct, two minutes for instigating and two minutes for fighting. MacKinnon was given two minutes for holding the stick while Masse was called on slashing.
