A scheduled special weekend for Bomber alumni has been waved off - for now, at least.

The alumni weekend, which was scheduled tentatively for Feb. 21-22, has been postponed after issues arose for organizers.

Tim Babcock, the current liaison on the Bombers’ board from the City of Flin Flon, was one of the weekend’s chief organizers. Babcock said one of the main issues was getting players to travel north mid-winter. In total, 23 former Bombers had confirmed willingness to come north for the event. The event was first announced last November.

“February is a bad time for travel,” he said.

“Lots of people expressed interest but said their kids had tournaments or they themselves were still playing senior hockey at that time.”

The current Bombers play two games during the originally scheduled weekend, both at home against the Estevan Bruins.

Instead of being held next month, a planned reunion will be held during the next edition of the Roller Goodwin Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Whitney Forum. A number of Bomber alumni regularly take part in the tournament, allowing for possibly higher numbers and more time to arrange and make plans.

“The feedback was that more people could attend if we did it in the fall,” Babcock said.
