The Flin Flon Bombers will have a new player in the lineup when they face the Weyburn Red Wings and Humboldt Broncos this weekend. They have acquired 18-year-old Thomas Hurd, who started the year in Melfort with the Mustangs. With a coaching change in Melfort, he was moved to Bonnyville, before being brought to Flin Flon. He arrived in town on Wednesday and skated with the team for the first time on Thursday. "We only have 12 forwards right now," said coach Ryan Hoffman. "We thought we would bring Thomas in for this weekend and see how he fits in with what we are looking for and if he can help us out." See 'Sherwood' P.# Con't from P.# The Bombers will host the Weyburn Red Wings on Friday night. The Wings have occupied the basement of the Sherwood Conference for the entire season to date, but are on the verge of catching both the Humboldt Broncos and Melville Millionaires. On Saturday night, the Broncos will be in town. Humboldt has been struggling lately, and have won three games in their last 10 outings. They are currently on a four-game losing streak. In order to pick up wins this weekend, the Bombers will have to be better on their special teams. Last week, their penalty killing was okay, but their power play was on life-support with just two goals in 30 attempts. The Bombers are 3-5-2 in their last ten games, which is their best 10-game stretch of the season. During a seven-game home stand earlier this month, the Bombers had some close games, and only let one game slip away completely. On the road this past weekend, they picked up a point in Nipawin with a 2-2 tie, but couldn't get anything out of Battleford or Kindersley. The Bombers held a "Bail me out!" fundraiser on Thursday to raise money for the team. Early indications were that this event would turn a good profit for the team, although the final amount raised was not available at press time. I had the pleasure of being arrested myself. The warrant was filled out by the players themselves, so I'm sure you can imagine what the charge was. I turned myself in peacefully and posted my own bail, and had a few laughs as well. ? T.B.
