The Flin Flon Bombers' recent winning streak is over. The team was shut out on the road by the Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday night, losing 3-0.
Carson Albrecht and Kayle Tosh both scored in the first period for Melfort, followed by a goal in the second by Rock Ruschkowski. The Bombers couldn't get much offense going against one of the top teams in the SJHL, managing only 22 shots on Mustang goalie Evan Plotnik.
Brenden Newton performed admirably in the Flin Flon net, taking a loss while making 31 saves. Bomber defenseman Isaac Jackson and Mustang forward Reed Gunville were both ejected after a fight in the third period.
The loss brings an end to the team's five game winning streak, keeping them in a distant third in the Sherwood Division with 32 points. In the league standings, the Bombers come in ninth out of twelve, just behind the eighth-seed Kindersley Klippers (34 points) and ahead of tenth-place Melville (28 points).
With Wednesday being the SJHL trade deadline, there is no guarantee that the Bomber squad that played Tuesday will be the same moving forward. As of Tuesday night, the team had not announced any trades or roster movements.
The Bombers will suit up for a two game homestand with Battlefords on Jan. 12 and 13, followed by a home game against La Ronge on Jan. 19.
