Flin Flon Bombers took both first and second spot in the SJHL's Defenceman of the Month vote. Cole Vardy took top spot, while his pair-mate Xavier Lapointe was the runner-up.

The two players were announced as numbers one and two in the league last month Nov. 3, finishing tops of all the 114 defencemen who have played in the league so far this year.

Vardy and Lapointe both have 13 points so far this season, leading the SJHL in scoring by defencemen. The two often make up the Bombers' top defence pair and play special teams minutes, both killing penalties and adding offence on the powerplay. In 15 games in October, Vardy had 13 points and five goals. Lapointe had 11 points, including five goals, in that time.

"The third-year Bomber [Vardy] logs a massive number of minutes, while leading all defencemen in points on a Bombers team that is tied for first place in the SJHL," reads the announcement on the SJHL's website.

"The Flin Flon Bombers have the two top-scoring defencemen in the SJHL in Vardy and Lapointe, but the slight edge in player voting went to Vardy."

In addition to Vardy and Lapointe, goalie Cal Schell finished as runner-up in the SJHL's Goaltender of the Month category behind Humboldt's Rayce Ramsay. Schell played nine games in October, winning eight of them and racking up three shutouts. Schell had a 1.78 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .946 through those nine games.
