Cal Schell has become the latest Flin Flon Bomber to commit to a college hockey program.

Starting next season, the Bombers’ starting netminder will head to upstate New York to join the Oswego State Lakers, playing out of SUNY-Oswego in the SUNYAC conference of NCAA’s Division III.

Schell has existing family ties to the program - his younger sister Lauren already plays at the school for the Lakers’ women’s team. Schell won’t be the only former Bomber goalie in th conference - he’ll be playing against Pierce Diamond, who suits up with the SUNY-Canton Kangaroos.

“I chose Oswego because it truly is a winning culture. They’re in the mix every year and they hold very high standards. The facilities are amazing and I get to study a program that I really like,” said Schell in a news release issued by the Bombers.

Schell is one of two players on the Bombers this season who have secured NCAA play for next season - the other is defender Xavier Lapointe, who is set to play next season for the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers in Division I.

In 24 games this season, Schell has a 2.54 goals-against-average, a .917 save percentage and has a 17-6-0-1 record. Schell also has four shutouts, enough for second in the league.
