With hockey season just around the corner, what better way to get it started then a friendly round of golf. The Flin Flon Bombers are hosting their annual Golf Tournament today at the Phantom Lake Golf Course. Members of the community signed up to tee-off with returning Bombers as well as a few future players. As of yesterday morning, nearly 60 golfers from the Flin Flon area had signed their names up for a tee-time. As well, 20 players will be on the greens. Head coach and GM Mike Reagan said the numbers are comparable to last year. "We're close. We'd like to see it full," he said. Through the funds raised today, all proceeds go towards the players. The money will be put towards purchasing new track suits for the team. Golfers tee-off this afternoon, however Reagan says the Bomber office is still taking names this today to register. As well as the Texas Scramble format tournament, competitors will have a chance to enter into the putting competition as well as win some prizes. Once golf is all said and done, for the team, the Bombers head into Main Camp. They Whitney Forum will be a busy place next weekend as hopeful players will give it their all to make the team. Preseason games are scheduled to start on Monday with the Bombers hosting Swan River. Wednesday has the OCN Blizzard in town before they head to Nipawin next Friday. The Bombers host the Hawks the following night and wrap up the preseason with the OCN back in town. The Bombers play their first game of the regular season September 17 in Melfort and host the Mustangs the following night in their Home Opener.
