The Bombers opened up their first southern road trip of the year by beating the Yorkton Terriers 5-0 Tuesday night.

Harmon Laser-Hume picked up his first shutout of the season and the Bomber offence continued its torrid recent pace, moving the team to a 6-0-0-1 record on the year.

It took almost the entire first period for the Bombers to open the scoring, but they did so just in time, with Jacob Vockler one-timing a puck past Terriers goalie Blake Sittler with barely a second left on the clock. Going into the second period with a 1-0 lead, the Bombers pulled away starting at the midway point, with Liam Bridger adding a goal after breaking through the defence and picking a spot on Sittler.

Flin Flon made it 3-0 in the final minute of the frame, with Brock Mueller getting the job done by springing on an open rebound. Meanwhile, Laser-Hume kept things under lock and key in the Bomber crease.

Come time for the third period, the Bombers extended the lead further, with the Terriers' defence letting Alexi Sylvestre sneak in on a breakaway, where he beat Sittler no problem. In the dying minutes, Sylvestre got a gimme in the slot, poking in a puck open in the slot past Sittler to make it 5-0, confirming the win.

Laser-Hume picked up his first shutout of the season but it did not come easy - he made 35 saves to get it. Sittler stopped 28 shots on the night.

Vockler ended the game with three points, including two assists, giving him the lead in the SJHL scoring race with a whopping 17 points in just seven games. Sylvestre isn't far behind in second place, with 16 points of his own.

The win puts the Bombers in sole possession of top spot in the SJHL standings, with 13 of a possible 14 points on the season. Both Melfort and Humboldt remain undefeated, but both have played fewer game than the Bombers - Melfort is second in the league standings with 12 points in six games, while the Broncos are fourth with eight points in just four games. Weyburn sits third in the league standings, having put up 10 points and a 4-1-0-2 record in their seven games so far.

The Bombers' southern road swing continues on Wednesday with a rematch in Wilcox against the Notre Dame Hounds, then wraps up with a pair of tougher tests later in the week - first a Friday night matchup in Estevan, then a Saturday night game against the surging Weyburn Red Wings.
