One point received, but not two - the Bombers' winning streak is now over. The team took La Ronge to overtime, but lost 4-3.
The Bombers opened the scoring with a laugher, courtesy of Cole Tanchuk. With the Bombers shorthanded early in the first, Tanchuk dumped a shot from his own defensive zone, which bounced, bobbled and bumbled down the ice - and past Ice Wolves goalie Dawson Smith, who fell victim to a nearly 150-foot goal.
The period continued with a pair of fights. First, La Ronge's Ethan Strik and Bomber assistant captain Cole Vardy dropped the mitts - a fight that ended with a Strik takedown, both players out for the night and a sportsmanlike fistbump between the two combatants. Matt Raymond and Nate Looft then fought immediately after in a full-blown 12-round tilt, ending in a draw and another show of sportsmanship after the officials stepped in - a couple head pats and short hug.
Jaxon Martens extended the Bomber lead to two with a quick snapper from the high slot, coming after a failed La Ronge clearing attempt.
La Ronge cut the lead with a point shot which was tipped in front by Jacob Visentini, then eliminated it altogether in the second period with a goal by Aaron Greyeyes.
Jacob Vockler got the lead for the Bombers with an early third period goal, but Tye Evans tied the game back up for La Ronge halfway through the period. Through 60 minutes, no final decision was reached - overtime would be required.
In the overtime, the Ice Wolves got possession and owned the puck. The Ice Wolves ended the festivities only 45 seconds into OT, with a goal finished off by Greyeyes, who scored his second of the night.
The Bombers' seven-game winning streak is now gone, but the team has received at least a point in each of their last eight games. Flin Flon still sits third in the league and atop the Sherwood division with 56 points.
La Ronge's Dawson Smith picked up the W with a 28 save performance, while Cal Schell made 32 saves for Flin Flon.
The two teams will face off again in La Ronge Jan. 29.
