Bomber Game Report

The Bombers came dangerously close to collapse Friday night, but battled back to a 4-3 win.

Flin Flon got the W in the first of a two-game weekend set against the Weyburn Red Wings.

The Bombers opened the scoring barely a minute into the game, courtesy of local boy Joey Lies finding the twine behind Wings netminder Matt Schoephoerster. Flin Flon extended their lead toward the end of the period, with Alexi Sylvestre continuing his hot streak with his 20th goal of the season, making it 2-0 Bombers after one. While Bomber top scorers Jaeden Mercier, Cole Duperreault, Jeremi Tremblay and others still out of the lineup, Flin Flon's offence was still humming.

Flin Flon extended the lead further on a powerplay early in the second - Cory King put a shot through traffic and into the Weyburn net, giving the Bombers a commanding 3-0 lead.

It would be too soon to count the visitors out, however. Riley Morgan ruined Harmon Laser-Hume's shutout hopes halfway through the period, then Weyburn pulled within one thanks to a goal by Ian Maier.

While the Bombers entered the third up 3-2, Morgan would tie things up early in the period for the Wings, seeing the Bombers fully lose their early lead. Despite a high volume of shots, Schoephoerster stood tall for the most part.

Flin Flon managed to pull back ahead, with Zach Cain scoring the go-ahead goal halfway through the period. Weyburn would stay on the attack in an attempt to tie it up, pulling Schoephoerster late, but Flin Flon would stand tall.

Laser-Hume stopped 23 shots en route to the win, while Schoephoerster saw more rubber than a Goodyear plant, stopping 54 shots in a losing cause.

The two teams will play each other once more at the Whitney Forum Saturday night.
