The Flin Flon Bombers took out the SJHL's best team Saturday night, giving Humboldt a 3-2 loss.

In the two teams' first meeting of the season, taking place on Humboldt's home rink, it was the Broncos getting on the board first. Matt Perkins capitalized on a Humboldt powerplay eight minutes in, making it 1-0 Broncos.

Following that, the Bombers took over the period, first getting a shorthanded goal from forward Gabriel Shipper and getting another goal from Jacob Vockler late in the period to get a lead.

Humboldt tied the game back up in the second courtesy of Cage Newans, entering the third period with the two teams tied at two goals each. Humboldt put pressure on, but it was the Bombers who pulled ahead late, with Jaxon Martens getting a goal with eight minutes to go that stood up as the game-winner.

Cal Schell picked up the win in this heavyweight tilt, having made 25 saves, while Rayce Ramsay took the L with a 33-save performance.

In the most recent CJHL national top 20 rankings, Humboldt was ranked as Canada's 12th-best junior A team. The Bombers were not ranked, despite having beaten Estevan - which are ranked 14th in the country - last week.

Flin Flon now sits fourth in the SJHL standings with 34 points, behind the Broncos (38 points), the Battlefords North Stars (37) and the Estevan Bruins (36).

The two teams will meet again Sunday for a rare matinee game, starting in Humboldt at 4 p.m. local time.
