The Flin Flon Bombers kept their mojo going Friday night, handing Yorkton a 2-0 loss at the Whitney Forum and holding the league's points lead.
Flin Flon dressed only 11 forwards and seven defencemen on the team's pre-Halloween spooktacular, but despite different lines and lineups, the home team eventually came through.
Both teams were deadlocked after one period of play and stayed that way for much of the second period, with only a goal by Jacob Tremblay interrupting the deadlock with five minutes left in the second. The Bombers would keep that lead for the rest of the night, with Xavier Lapointe scoring his fifth of the season a minute into the third to clinch the win.
Cal Schell earned his league-leading third shutout of the season, making 42 saves against the Terriers for the win. Yorkton netminder Kael DePape made 29 stops in the other net, being handed the L.
The Bombers still sit tops in the SJHL with 24 points in 17 games, but sit third in points percentages behind Humboldt and Estevan due to the Bombers having played 17 games and the other two playing 15 and 13 respectively. If the Broncos and Bruins had played as many games as Flin Flon, the two teams would have 25 points according to current pace.
The rest of the SJHL will be able to play catch up in the coming weeks, as Flin Flon plays only one game in the next two weeks, a game against Melfort on the road Nov. 3. The Bombers will then go on a five-game homestand, playing Melfort again Nov. 12, Notre Dame Nov. 13, Estevan Nov. 19-20 and Nipawin Nov. 23.
