Alexi Sylvestre's hard work is paying off. The Bomber forward was named the SJHL's rookie of the month after a strong February.

The 18-year-old Chateauguay, QC native led all first-year SJHL players in scoring during February and remains within striking distance of the league's rookie scoring lead.

During 11 games in February, Sylvestre had points in eight games, putting up 13 points including six goals. With the Bombers' standard top unit of Cole Duperreault, Jaeden Mercier, Jeremi Tremblay and Jacob Vockler each out for parts of the month with injuries, Sylvestre rose to the occasion, finishing the month having wrapped up a five-game point streak. The rookie added a goal and an assist during the Bombers' weekend set against the Battlefords Feb. 17-18.

Sylvestre was also named the SJHL's rookie of the week Feb. 28.

Sylvestre is second in SJHL scoring by rookies, with 40 points in 51 games so far this season - only La Ronge's Thomas Wright, a 20-year-old who has 41 points, has hit the scoresheet more than Sylvestre, while Dylan Ruptash of the Yorkton Terriers has one more goal than Sylvestre this season.

"With the Flin Flon Bombers bit by the injury bug, rookie Alexi Sylvestre has stepped up his game to help the Bombers move into second place in the SJHL standings," reads the player of the month announcement from the SJHL, released March 1.

Other player award winners from the league include Battlefords' Kian Bell, who scored 13 goals in eight games during February en route to being named the league's monthly MVP, and Humboldt netminder Jared Picklyk, whose five wins in five games got him the nod as goalie of the month. Bell's Stars teammate Tynan Ewert was named the SJHL's defenceman of the month.
