Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Former Flin Flon Bomber Al Genovy, who went on to become a prominent figure in the southwestern Michigan hockey scene, has reportedly died of cancer. He was 64. Genovy grew up in Flin Flon and spent the 1965-66 season with the Bombers, though his statistics are unavailable. In 1974, he became the first player to sign with the IHL's Kalamazoo Wings and became the team's first captain. After ending his pro career after the 1977-78 season, Genovy reportedly went on to coach junior and youth hockey in Kalamazoo and area. Late last year, the Wings honoured him by naming its Ambassador Award after him.
