WINNIPEG, MB Ð The Winnipeg Blue Bombers upgraded their Canadian talent base today with the acquisition of non-import LB/S Ryan Folk in a trade with the Montreal Alouettes. ÊIn exchange for Folk, the Bombers dealt the playing rights to suspended DB Ricky Bell to the Als. Ê"Ryan will upgrade our special teams depth immensely and will significantly upgrade our overall Canadian talent level," said Bombers General Manager Brendan Taman. ÊFolk (5-10, 195, Calgary '04 DOB: Nov. 29, 1978 in Medicine Hat, Alta.) was a fifth round pick of the Bombers in the 2004 Canadian College Draft. He attended training camp with the Blue and Gold that summer and was signed by the Als as a free agent in June of '04. ÊIn five games with the Als this season, Folk recorded one tackle and five special teams tackles. Last season with Montreal he recorded 10 special teams tackles in six games. ÊFolk was one of the top collegiate defenders in the country with Calgary. He was a Canada West All-Star in 2003 and won the school's President's Trophy as Calgary's top defensive player that season. He was also the team's 2002 President's Trophy recipient when he recorded 49 defensive tackles including an amazing 15-tackle effort in a game against the Saskatchewan Huskies.
