Kelly Carrington Staff Writer With discouraged and defeated looks on their faces, the Flin Flon Bombers' season came to an end after the La Ronge Ice Wolves tripled up on them 9-3. Traveling to La Ronge, the Bombers faced off against the Ice Wolves in game five of the conference semifinals last Friday. Trailing in the series 3-1, the Bombers needed a win to stay alive. Flin Flon got the scoring started as Andrew Johnston tallied the Bombers' first goal Ð against Adam Bartko Ð to take the lead. But the lead didn't last long as the Ice Wolves took the momentum from the Bombers and used it not only to tie the game, but to take the lead and add another marker. Johnston's goal came at 5:16, on a power play, with help from Tanner Korchinski and Devon Stillar. The Ice Wolves soon evened things up as Justin Ducharme got one past PJ Musico at 6:01. On a power play, at 6:53, Skyler Hladun broke the tie and made it 2-1 for the Ice Wolves. Another goal came for La Ronge at 9:53 as Logan Herauf lit the lantern for a 3-1 lead. Bomber Jessie Mychan got back on the scoring wagon with his team's second goal, at 15:39, but the Ice Wolves answered back, at 17:50, on a power play, to end out the first period. Trailing 4-2, the Bombers were looking for a better period in the second, but it was the Ice Wolves who scored the lone goal. At 4:06, La Ronge continued to hold a steady lead over the visitors, now down 5-2. The third period had the Ice Wolves scoring just after the puck dropped, at :37, for their sixth goal of the game. The team's 7-2 lead came shortly after as Rhyse Dieno scored against Musico at 2:59. See 'Series...' on pg. 10 Continued from pg. 4 Devon Stillar scored the Flin Flon's third goal at 4:30. Flin Flon's scoring was done, while La Ronge still had a couple left. Just a minute after Stillar's goal, another power play marker came for the Ice Wolves. A few minutes later, the home team scored their final goal Ð on another power play Ð to end the game along with Flin Flon's season. With a lower-than-expected number of wins in the regular season, the Bombers entered the postseason fifth in the Bauer Conference. The team beat out the Battlefords North Stars 3-1 in the Bauer Conference elimination series. Moving onto the first-place Ice Wolves, the Bombers lost two crucial games on the road to start the series. Hosting the Ice Wolves at the Whitney Forum, the Bombers won game three but were unable to tie the series. The Ice Wolves took a commanding 3-1 lead over the Bombers. Head coach and GM Mike Reagan was unavailable for comment as of press time.
