Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers picked up a big 5-0 win against the Weyburn Red Wings last Saturday night. Captain Ryan Fox started the scoring after accepting the puck from Devon Stillar and Tanner Korchinski on a power play late in the first period. Following through with the team's second goal, Andrew Johnston lit the lantern with help from Fox and Stillar. Heading into the second period up 2-0, the Bombers were looking to further solidify their lead. In the new year, the team has had difficulty securing those two points each game. But the Maroon and White had what it took Saturday as Stillar netted the team's third goal, on a power play, with help from Korchinski and Johnston just 1:31 in. Pickle scores A fourth goal came from Dillan (Pickle) McCombie just before the 12-minute mark. Leading the host team 4-0, the Bombers earned their final goal in the third period as Pickle put another one past Riley Hengen with help from Riley Storzuk and Jonathon Young. The Bombers earned their fourth win of 2011, coming after a tough fight the night before in Estevan. The Bombers came from behind after being down four goals to the Bruins. The Bombers and Bruins were tied at 6-6, but it was a late goal against PJ Musico that gave the Bruins the win. Leaving Estevan, the Bombers hit the ice in Weyburn and proved to the Red Wings they have what it takes. Following Saturday's game, the Bombers were in La Ronge Tuesday night. The outcome was in favour of the Ice Wolves, 6-4. The Bombers started the scoring in the first period with two goals Ð one from Johnston and the other from Stillar. Johnston had help from Korchinski and Fox near the 14-minute mark, while Stillar found the net with helpers going to newcomer Tanner Clark and Fox while on a power play with just two seconds to go in the period. The Bombers led the home team 2-0 heading into the second period. See 'Fox...' on pg. 9 Continued from pg. 4 Fox earned a quick power play goal at 1:28 to make it 3-0 with help from Stillar and Johnston. Musico's shutout didn't last much longer, though, as Ice Wolf Aaron Enns found the back of the net just a minute after Fox's goal. From there, the Ice Wolves took off and scored three more in the second. Going into the third, the Bombers were down 4-3. A goal from Brandt Weldon tied the game for the Bombers Ð with help from Young and Storzuk. The Ice Wolves pulled away and earned two more goals for the win. The Ice Wolves lead the pack in the SJHL, also claiming first place in the Bauer Conference. The Bombers, however, sat in fifth place in the same conference. Leaving La Ronge Tuesday night, the Bombers welcomed the Ice Wolves to the Whitney Forum the next night for a much-anticipated game. The fans at the Whitney Forum always seem to have a little more to say when the Ice Wolves are in town.
