A popular neighbourhood park is about to become an even more exciting destination for children. Thanks to $47,000 in grant money, Alder Park will this year receive four new pieces of equipment. Among them are a 'sway and go' and a spring-loaded play apparatus, both of which will be accessible to children with mobility limitations. New swings and teeter-totters will also be installed. Leslie Beck, co-chair of Friends of Alder Park, a volunteer committee, noted the park's bunk will have to be rotated to make way for the additions. In years to come, the plan is to build a larger bunk that will be paved for year-round use. There is also early talk of utilizing the rink as a skateboard park. The park benefits from $10,000 from the HudBay Minerals 80th Anniversary Fund. Other grants came from the Community Places program, Neighbourhoods Alive! and the Northern Neighbours Foundation. The park is located on Alder Avenue, off of Princess Boulevard. It is slated to receive a fresh layer of soil from the provincial government due to high smelter-borne metal content detected in the ground.
