With a goal of $7 million overall, the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Big Bike event was bringing in the dollars quickly. The total was rapidly changing Tuesday morning. Teams of 29, plus a driver, across Canada hopped on the bike this past weekend in 200 communities. The events are spread among nine provinces "raising funds, attention and laughs along the way," read the Heart and Stroke's website. "The Big Bike is one of the Heart and Stroke Foundation's most FUN-raising fundraising events. Causing a commotion wherever it goes, the event is named after the BIG 30-seat BIKE." Along with pedaling with many others at once, the riders are encouraged to have fun with the event. Before even getting onto the bike, the riders participate in a fun warm-up. Once they are ready to go, they choose an item of costume to wear Ð some choose necklaces while others pick out the wacky and wild hats. The Big Bike left Creighton Sunday at Noon from just outside the Sportex. The team made their way up the hill to Creighton Ave and hit the open road Ð to five corners and continued on from there. Locally, the Big Bike had some bare spots as nearly half the bike was being used.
