The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Nipawin forward Josh Belair as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending December 12th. The 19-year-old Belair is already regarded as one of the toughest and more physical players in the SJHL. Last week, he showed what he is capable of on offense as he led the Hawks to a pair of victories. On Tuesday, Belair had a powerplay goal in a 4-1 win over the Flin Flon Bombers. On Friday, Belair scored two goals and added four assists in a 7-2 win over the Bombers. The Debden native now has 17 goals and 12 assists in 33 games. He also has 133-penalty minutes. Belair also played in Sunday's All-Star Game in North Battleford. Kindersley forward Josh Sim made it a close race for the weekly award, scoring five points in three games during the week. He also had a four point All-Star Game. Defenseman of the week: Brad Schroeder, Humboldt Broncos The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is 19-year-old Brad Schroeder of the Humboldt Broncos. The Drake native had three assists in a Bronco 5-3 win over the Melfort Mustangs on Wednesday night. He also was part of the blueline corps that limited the Notre Dame Hounds to two goals on Saturday night. Not known for his offenses, Schroeder has two goals and eight assists in 30 games. His poise, self control, and leadership are big reasons why the Broncos view him as one of their top performers on the back end. Weyburn's Ryan Kuntz, Battlefords' Jordan Weibel, and Melfort's Brennan Ewen also received consideration. Goaltender of the week: Juliano Pagliero, Estevan Bruins The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 20-year-old Juliano Pagliero of the Estevan Bruins. It took Pagliero three months to earn his first weekly nod; but now he has two in a row after he blanked the Yorkton Terriers in a 3-0 road win on Wednesday night that saw Pagliero make 30-saves. Pagliero also made 18-saves in Friday night's 4-3 overtime decision over the Weyburn Red Wings. That victory sends Estevan into the Christmas Break on a 10 game winning streak. On the season, Pagliero is 20-5-4, 2.20, .925. He leads the league in wins and is second in GAA and shutouts. Melfort goalie Troy Ciernia and Notre Dame's Chance Gieni also received recognition as top goaltenders for the week. Belair receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Limited. Belair, Schroeder, and Pagliero all get undergarment wear from ITECH.
