Children and young teens will have the chance to bring out their creativity and leadership roles next week. Base Camp, run through the City of Flin Flon, gives youth between the ages of nine and 13 the chance to make new friends, participate in a variety of activities and develop new communication skills. Tara Abbott, also the Assistant Supervisor of Summer in the Parks, says Base Camp is a great opportunity for the youth. The program, which runs for a week in July as well as a week in August, gives youth a variety of experiences. Abbott says those participating will help green around the City as well as learn a few new games, visit Camp Whitney and Denare Beach and create a scrapbook from their time at Base Camp. "I think it's a great program for that age," said Abbott. "It's gets you out of the house and (meeting) new friends." Abbott says she wishes something like Base Camp would have been available when she was younger. "I would have done it. I know the (children) really like it. We've had some really positive feedback," she said. Abbott, who will also have Caitlyn Bailey as a councilor, says some youth enjoy it so much they return for the August program as well.
