After a rocky Selection Series, the Bombers were ready to hit the ice for the Semi-Finals with the Melfort Mustangs Friday night. Going in on a high after winning against the Mustangs in their last game in the Selection Series, the Bombers took their confidence and walked over the Mustangs in their own barn. After a scoreless first period, the Bombers opened up and walked away with a 4-0 win. And it would have been heard all over town as Flin Flon fans drowned out the home teamÕs supporters. Calvin Bartel stood his ground between the pipes as he knocked away 35 shots from the home team, earning himself a shutout. Although the Bombers were outshot 35-18, it only took four shots for the visiting team to pull a win. A scoreless first period saw only four penalties as both Flin Flon and Melfort faced an interference and a tripping call. Bartel saw 14 shots come his way, stopping everything in sight, while the Bombers fired off only six, all of which were stopped by Ilia Ejov. The second period saw more action as Reid MacLeod picked up his first play off goal, assisted by Myles Masse and Dennis Kubat on a power play only 39 seconds after the puck dropped. And it would stay at 1-0 for the Bombers for about 10 minutes before Pierre-Luc Boucher picked his chance and found the back of the net, with help from MacLeod and Bartel, making it 2-0. Penalties were slim during the game, but Melfort faced two minutes in the box for another interference call while the Kubat was given two minutes for interference. The third period was similar to the second as the Bombers would find themselves another two goals, making it 4-0 for the win. After almost 13 minutes of play, David Dykstra got past Ejov, with help from Cameron MacKinnon and Scott Day. And with a little more than two minutes on the clock Dominic Martel sealed the deal after being fed by Matt Restoule for an empty net goal. Mustang Matt Hill was given two minutes for roughing and MacLeod was in the bin for slashing, giving the Mustangs another power play opportunity, but it wasnÕt enough as Bartel was there, making sure to keep his shutout. The Mustangs traveled to Flin Flon for a Sunday night game, in hopes of breaking the teamÕs winning streak, but they had no luck as Bartel was back in net and kept his shutout going.
