It was a Bomber filled weekend as the Flin Flon Bantam Bombers hosted a fun tournament for Thompson, Swan River and OCN this past weekend at both the Whitney Forum and the Creighton Sportex. The teams played in a round robin fashion, making their way to the top. Coming in fourth place in the round robin, the Bombers played off against Swan River in the semi-finals and soon carried on to take on the Thompson Miners in the finals. Fans and parents sat in the Sportex on a cold Sunday night to watch the host underdog team take on the third place team for all the marbles. After the second period, the Bombers were up 5-1 and showing no mercy. The third period had Thompson score their final goal of the game as well as the Bombers, to bring the final tally up to 6-2. The Maroon and White broke out in cheer, as did the fans, before the championship banner was presented. Head coach Trent Boak, of the Bombers, says the team came in as the underdogs, and there was no pressure. "We're here to play hockey to get better," he says adding that "everyone is even. It doesn't matter if you are in first place, second place, third place or fourth place, it's still anyone's game. "We were glad to be in the final game. The boys played well and they deserved to be here," says the coach. This was the first such tournament Flin Flon has held in about eight years, says Boak.
