The Flin Flon Kinsmen Bantam "AA" Bombers travelled to The Pas the weekend of January 14, 15 and 16 to compete in The Pas Bantam Tournament. In the first game, the Bombers took on The Pas Huskies, and in a somewhat lacklustre effort came away with a 4-3 decision. The Bombers had period leads of 2-0 and 4-0 but The Pas Huskies came back in the third period with three goals to make the game a nail biter. Scoring for the Bombers in the first period were Nick Hamilton, unassisted and Lyle Leclair assisted by Ryan Fox. In the second period Aaron Bauman scored, assisted by Skylar Hillier. Calvin Cairns netted the winner in the second period assisted by Tanner Korchinski and Aaron Bauman. The Bombers then went on to meet the Thompson King Miners early Saturday afternoon. The teams were scoreless after the first period and the Bombers led 1-0 after two on a goal by Ryan Fox assisted by Wesley Gawiak and Nick Hamilton. In the third period, the Bombers opened the scoring ten seconds in on a quick goal by Wesley Gawiak, assisted by Ryan Fox. Thompson came back with a goal of their own, but Flin Flon kept going as Owen Woloshyn netted an unassisted marker followed by another unassisted goal by Ryan Fox. With just 17 seconds left, Ryan Fox would get the hat trick, netting his third goal, assisted by Tanner Korchinski. Final score: Flin Flon 5, Thompson 2. See 'Win' P.# Con't from P.# The Bombers then went on to play the Swan Valley Stampeders Saturday evening and in what appeared to be a Bomber route jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead. Goal scorers for the Bombers were Owen Woloshyn, assisted by Tanner Korchinski, Tanner Korchinski assisted by Ryan Fox, Aaron Bauman assisted by Skylar Hillier and Jordan Crone and Lyle Leclair assisted by Aaron Bauman and Kelvin Linklater. After the first period, the Bombers fell asleep and allowed Swan Valley to score two goals in the second to get back in the game. In the third period, it was all Stampeders as they scored three unanswered goals to take a 5-4 win. Despite the loss, the Bombers' record in the tournament was sufficient for them to make it into the Burger King Cup final against the Swan Valley Stampeders, on Sunday afternoon. Swan Valley opened the scoring in the first period; however, the Bombers came back with two of their own for a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Skylar Hillier started the Bombers off on a blast from the point assisted by Ryan Fox. Wesley Gawiak then netted the go ahead goal with 2:43 left in the first period assisted by Ryan Fox and Nick Hamilton. In the second period the Bombers upped the ante by scoring two more goals on markers by Ryan Fox assisted by Owen Woloshyn and Skylar Hillier, and Wesley Gawiak also assisted by Skylar Hillier. In the third period, Tanner Korchinski scored assisted by Calvin Cairns. Aaron Bauman rounded out the scoring with a goal halfway through the third period assisted by Jordan Crone. The Bombers took the championship cup with a 6-1 trouncing of their Swan Valley rivals. The Bombers definitely showed their conditioning in the championship game and Swan Valley was guilty of some very chippy hockey which saw them short handed on numerous occasions, especially in the third period. The Bombers' next tournament will see them travel to Saskatoon, followed by a tournament in Dauphin, which will be reported in due course.
