While touring the west end of the country, Winnipeg band Tin Foil Phoenix, along with The Travezty, made their way to Flin Flon last Saturday night. Lead singer Scott Robinson and The Travezty took the The Unwinder's stage first. Playing to a growing crowd, The Travezty played for about an hour, handing the stage off to the Tin Foil Phoenix. Before the show Robinson, who has been with The Travezty for the past five years, said this was his first visit to the area. "I've never been to Flin Flon before, but it's a stop on the tour... we just go where we're told," says Robinson. The band performed a number of their songs, including their new single, Coming Clean. The Travezty are concentrating mainly on the western part of the country, but hope to expand sooner rather than later. "It gets expensive (to travel East), but we have been to Halifax and Montreal," says Robinson, but he adds "our main thing now is to stay busy and get out there as much as possible." The Travezty are living the life long dream they have all had, according to Scott. "It's way better then any 8-5 office job, although we were on the road for eight hours today," he says. With many great bands comes the fans, which Scott says is what the shows are about. "You can go and get hammered every night, but when you play the next night people don't want to see that," he says. He adds that "people are paying for this and they don't want to see something that sucks." The Travezty, who are a rock band, have made a number of accomplishments on and off the stage. See 'Single' on pg. Continued from pg. The new album coming out, in stores January 15, Who You Are, will have a single released called Nothing Less, which is going to be in the movie Forever Strong. This is a first for the band, and Robinson says it's huge. "We're hoping to be able to get it onto a soundtrack album, which would just be awesome." Aside from the fact one of their songs would be in the movie, Robinson says they would also get "lots of publicity and get our name out there." "I just want to let the world hear my music someday...there's nothing better than that," says Robinson. Touring with The Travezty is the Tin Foil Phoenix. Making their way to Flin Flon for the first time was a treat. Maz, the band's lead singer, says it's nice to be able to play local shows. "We don't always get a chance to play in the province, so when we do it's nice," says Maz. "This is my first time to Flin Flon, but one of the guys was here about 13 years ago, I think." Maz describes the Tin Foil Phoenix as a radio band, which means the majority of their time is spent trying to get on the airwaves. And as far as the tour goes, at times the radio factor can be an influence in their choice to play a venue or not. "We wouldn't refuse to play a spot, but if we can play in a city and have a chance to get on the radio, we will," says the lead singer. When playing at a spot like The Unwinder, Maz says there are some obvious differences then when they play a venue like the MTS Centre. "There is the huge stage (at the MTS Centre) but we're not going to take the foot off the pedal tonight that's for sure," he says. "When you tour in places like the MTS Centre, everything is always the same...the same sounds check and things, but when you come to a bar you get to adapt and it changes things up a bit." "And," says Maz, "when you are in a small place you can reach out and touch people, where as in a large place you could be 30 feet away from anyone." The Travezty and Tin Foil Phoenix will be touring throughout the Western part of the country with more information on their websites at www.travezty.com and www.tinfoilphoenix.com.
