This was also the first time that a badminton tournament had been split into junior and senior categories. Grades 9 and 10 played each other, and 11 and 12 battled together. Hapnot's Kristy Asmundson took first place in the junior varsity singles category. In JV mixed doubles, Doug Hills and Kristy Asmundson won the tournament, with Aaron Lantz and Shaleen Baribeau placing second and Jessie Lysohirka and Nikki Asmus coming in fourth. "Our juniors did quite well," said coach Don Bodnarus. "We don't have as many seniors involved in the program this year, and some of them were away with band. It will be interesting to see how they do when they come back for our home tournament." In senior girls doubles, Camille Limoges and Shaleen Baribeau came in second. Danny Halpin and Scott Lemaistre placed third in senior boys doubles. "This was our first tournament of the season," said Bodnarus. "It was a good tournament to see where the players are at. It gives them something to focus on, because now they know which areas they need to improve on and which areas they are doing good." The group was accompanied by coaches Graham Garrett and Don Bodnarus, and also Heather Lytwyn who went as the female chaperone. Hapnot will be hosting a tournament on April 11 and 12, after Spring Break. There are currently over 20 people on the team, but there will have to be some cuts made before the Zone 11 Championships in The Pas, April 25 and 26. Players will be ranked using a ladder system in practice, and players will virtually eliminate themselves based on who is at the bottom of the ladder before the tournament.
