This past weekend the Johnny's AA Atom Bombers travelled to The Pas to compete in their annual Grub Box tournament. First game on Friday put the local boys against the Swan Valley Stampeders. In the first period Zach Garrett opened the scoring from Dillan McCombie and Kaden Antoniuk. In the second Dillan McCombie opened the period with an unassisted goal and the third and final goal came from Brendan Barron assisted by Zach Garrett and Dillan McCombie. No scoring in the third. Bombers win 3-0. Edward Gardiner was in net for the shutout. Brendan Barron was game star. Saturday afternoon the AA Bombers came up against the Dauphin Kings. The boys were looking for a win after losing the A final to the Kings in the Swan River tourney in December. The only scoring of the game came from Zach Garrett assisted by Dillan McCombie in the second period. Bombers win 1-0. Jeff Stallard took home the shutout award. Game star went to Nathan Johnson. Second game of the day was against the hometown Huskies. The AA Bombers opened the scoring in the first with a goal by Mike Ferguson from Drew Morin. Before the first ended the Huskies tied the game at one. Nearing the end of the second Zach Garrett scored from Brendan Barron and Dillan McCombie. No scoring in the third and the Bombers win 2-1. In net was Edward Gardiner. Nathan Johnson was game star. The win gave the Flin Flon AA's first in their pool and a spot in the A final against the Thompson King Miners. This was to be the second final in a month for these two teams. Thompson scored first and Flin Flon came back two minutes later to tie the game with a goal from Evan Akkerman assisted by Garrett Hatherley and Seth Fernandes. Flin Flon scored again with a goal by Dillan McCombie assisted by Brendan Barron. Thompson came back with another and the Bombers scored one more unassisted by Garrett Hatherley to end the first period 3-2 Bombers. Thompson exploded for four goals in the second and Flin Flon could only put one in the net by Mike Ferguson from Nathan Johnson. Thompson once again came out flying and put seven goals in the net in the third. Flin Flon's only goal of the third came from Dillan McCombie assisted by Garrett Hatherley. Final score 13-5 in favour of Thompson. Jeff Stallard and Edward Gardiner shared the net minding. Game star was Garrett Hatherley. Next action for the Johnny's AA Bombers is March 4, 5 and 6 in Thompson where they will compete in Provincial Playdowns.
