Congratulations to Delaney McIntyre, the Chicken Chef Athlete of the Week. Delaney is a Grade 5 student at Parkdale School, and is one of the most exciting elementary wrestlers to watch. This is her first year wrestling, and the young superstar has taken the gold medal at each of her first three tournaments. In fact, she has yet to lose a match. "She's a great all around athlete and a great team player," said coach Eric Skeavington. "She has a lot of potential for wrestling. She sets an example for the other kids." Eric himself didn't start wrestling until Grade 6. Now in Grade 9, he is the leader of Hapnot's wrestling team. He sees the same success following Delaney if she stays with the program. "When she gets to Hapnot, if she sticks with it, she will do well at Provincials," he said. So what sets Delaney apart from the rest of her competition? "She seems to really enjoy it," saidÊSkeavington. "She has great determination. She listens very well and catches on fast. She tries hard." Without giving away too many of her secrets, Skeavington said that the moves that work for Delaney are the single leg takedown and the step through. "If she does those her opponents are on the ground," he said. "She's really good at that." Delaney wins herself a 9" pizza or two piece chicken dinner from Chicken Chef.
