"I have arthritis, can I still exercise?" Of course! Whether you have occasional arthritis pain, or full blown rheumatoid arthritis, physical activity can, and should, be part of your daily activities. Exercise can reduce overall inflammation, joint pain and stiffness, builds strong muscles to support the joints, and can increase flexibility and endurance (That's not even counting the cardiovascular benefits!). The key is to ease into a moderate exercise program that includes flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular training. As always, consult your doctor before you begin any exercise program and ask for information regarding what to do when suffering from a flare up. Lyndsay Eastman, B.Sc. (Hons) American College of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
