The Battlefords North Stars extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games in one of three matches on Tuesday, dumping the Melfort Mustangs 5-1. Jesse Matlock opened the scoring with his first of three on the night at 17:33 of the first period. The goal was one of two shorthanded efforts for Matlock. Chad Richardson tied the game midway through the second period, but goals by Jared Mohr at 13:01 and Matlock at 18:09, shorthanded, gave the Stars a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Matlock popped in his third goal of the game at 4:30 of the third period, and Mitch Woods closed the scoring with a power play goal at 9:05. Only 585 people attended the game in North Battleford, despite the team's winning ways. The Melville Millionaires needed overtime to get by the Humboldt Broncos 3-2. Daniel Moriarty scored the only goal of the first period at 1:23, giving the Millionaires an early lead. Arlen Marshall's power play goal at 4:41 of the second period tied the game, and Brady Heintz gave the Broncos the lead after 40 minutes of play. Kai Magnussen tied the game at 8:32 of the third period, and Bear Trapp scored the overtime winner at 2:12. Melville out shot Humboldt 33-31, including 4-0 in the extra frame. The Weyburn Red Wings continue to struggle, as they lost 4-0 to the Yorkton Terriers. After a scoreless first period, Chris Korchinski scored the only goal of the second period on the power play at 18:42. It would stand up to be the eventual game winning goal. Perry Faul, Josh Garbutt and Lance Herauf scored in the third period. A total of 14 fighting majors were handed out in third period. Yorkton out shot Weyburn 33-23.
