It's not about winning or losing, just beating personal bests. Flin Flon Aqua Jets coach Heather Todoschuk hopes for that at a swim meet in The Pas on Nov.12. "Swimming is an individual sport," Todoschuk says. " I believe every person has a chance to improve." Fifteen swimmers will represent the Aqua Jets during The Pas Roadrunners Invitational meet. "The expectation are for the swimmers to experience a competition," she explains. "A lot are new swimmers and it's to improve their times." Todoschuk puts the swimmers through endurance and technical training to be ready. She also informs swimmers in one important area. "We teach them the rules of swimming," she says, "so they don't disqualify." This happens to a lot of first and second-year swimmers, she says. Since the beginning of the season, Todoschuk has seen improvement in the swimmers' fitness levels. Despite the Aqua Jets losing three weeks of practice because of a pool defect, she doesn't believe the swimmers will be at a disadvantage. Todoschuk likes the group because they're fun, enthusiastic and good listeners. "They want to be there," she says, about going to the meet. "It's always a very exciting event." Joining the host team, The Pas, and Flin Flon are swimmers from Thompson and Dauphin.
