The 4th Annual Kids of Steel/Try a Tri Triathlon is less than a month away. Set for June 13 at 4:30 p.m. with a rain date of June 27, the 2004 Kids of Steel/Try a Tri Triathlon has an age category and ability level for everyone. Kids age 8 and 9 will have a 100 metre swim, 5 km cycle and 1 km run, with the same distances for the 10 and 11 age category. In the 12 and 13 year-old category, as well as the 14-16 category, athletes will have a 200 metre swim with a 10 km cycle and a 2 km run. The 17 and 18 year-olds, as well as the adults will have a 400 metre swim, a 15 km cycle and a 3 km run. "Active living is a huge part of the triathlon," said Heather Todoschuk, Aqua Centre Supervisor. "It's always nice to have a goal to work towards. The Kids of Steel or Try a Tri is a nice way to work up to that. It is inclusive for all age groups and all ability levels." All legs of the triathlon start and finish at the Aqua Centre. Helmets must be worn during the cycle. "The event is a great opportunity for people to experience a new challenge that will last a lifetime," said Bradey Fidierchuk on behalf of the Many Faces' Recreation Leadership Class, who will be assisting the Flin Flon Recreation Department with the event. "This fun and exciting challenge is a combination of swimming, biking and running. Every participant is a winner, and that is why our competition is going to be one of the greatest ever. It will be a great experience for everyone, so please take the time to come out and enjoy this fabulous day." Prizes will be available to the top finishers, as well as early bird draws and door prizes. Volunteers are always needed for this event.
