The Annual Flin Flon / Creighton Men's Bonspiel was held this past weekend, with 44 teams competing in four events. The men held their Ford Hot Shots competition on Saturday afternoon and then took a break to enjoy a roast beef supper catered by RJ's at the Legion Hall on Saturday night before hitting the hacks again. From that point on, every game was a final because this was everyone's fourth game and that was all that was guaranteed. By Sunday afternoon there were only eight rinks left in the playoffs. In the HBMS Main Event playing at Willowpark, Rod Gourlay and his team of Ralph Ellingson, Randy Beever and Craig Simpson took on the Thompson team of Lionel Janzen, Kody Janzen, Daniel McInnes and Bruce Tokle. It was a great game going right down to the last rock with Gourlay's team coming out the winner. Third in that event was the Bart Leifso team and fourth was the C. Erven team from The Pas. In the E.W.S. Distributors/Ginnell Bauman Watt Second Event the playoffs were held at the Uptown Curling Club, between Bernie Wall and his team of Gord Rudd, Ted Korte and Andre Baginski playing J. Aune's team of Doug Salahub (skipping) Jason Levers, Jim Aune and Chris Mathews. The Aune team won the game with H. Kozar's team taking third and D. Holmes taking fourth. See 'Great' P.# Con't from P.# The Stittco Third Event, played at the Uptown Curling Club, saw Grant McLuckie's team of Dave Kendall, Randy Matzer and Greg Nixon take on the Lyle Lavis team of Merle Sproxton, Lorne Morrison and Don Molien with the McLuckie team being the victors. Third was the B. Lofgren team with G. Agerbak taking fourth. In the Co-op Fourth Event played at Willowpark, the J. Switzer team of D. Dutcawich, R. Warren and Donnie Holmes took on the John Reeves team from The Pas with Drew Moore, Tar McCombie and Dave Knutson playing with him. The Reeves team won the game with J. Munson taking third and L. Morran taking fourth place. Everyone concluded that it was a great weekend. The winner of the Golf Membership Draw at the Uptown Curling Club was Ryan Hanson. Congratulations to the bonspiel committee for a job well done. Everyone was praising the efforts of Ed Sattelberger, the prize chairman, and his committee for the exceptionable job they did. In other curling news, a reminder that the big 75th anniversary celebration is set to take place at the Uptown Curling Club on the April 1st weekend with the mixed bonspiel. I would love to do a story on the history of the curling club if people would send me pictures, etc. at [email protected]. Or just drop them in my mailbox at 1 Hillcrest and I will get them back to you! Thanks!
