The Trout Festival canoe races had a near perfect day. The weather was calm and the crowds were large. All the events took place on Ross Lake June 29 with a total of 28 teams participating in the small canoes and 13 teams in the Voyageur Canoes. The first four teams in each category are as follows: 18 and under event 1st Mackenzie Grove and Megan Yaworski 2nd Stan Dreno and Tori Pedwell 3rd William and Brandon Morrell 4th Kaesy Enns and Jerusha Bergen. Mixed event 1st Penny and Dean Grove 2nd Kevin Pedwell and Patty Evans 3rd Bill Fulford and Myrna Guymer 4th Laura and Sean O'Brien. Women's Open event 1st Jan Modler and Myrna Guymer 2nd Tamara Bergen and Barb Wilson 3rd Mackenzie Grove and Megan Yaworski 4th Jen Hanson and Laura kennedy Men's Open event 1st Dean Grove and Wayne Kendrick 2nd Greg Evans and Kevin Pedwell 3rd Dave Koop and Greg Foord 4th Todd Clark and Bill Fulford In the six to 10 paddler voyageur canoe class, the winners and holders of the bragging rights for 2013 were the Denare Beach Yacht and Cattlemen club with a time of 5:41. Paddlers from the winning team include Trevor Clark, Todd Clark, Rick Quaal, Chris Weseen, G.A. Mckay, Lee Ayling, Andrew Lamb, John Harkis, Jewels Adolf and Sean Merasty. Many thanks go out to all the voyageur teams for the healthy competition and the fundraising for the Recycle Center.
