The Selkirk Steelers are one game away from advancing to the Royal Bank Cup, after defeating the Kindersley Klippers 3-1 on Wednesday night to take a 3-1 lead in the best of seven Anavet Cup series. The Klippers out shot the Steelers 52-40, but for the second game in a row, goaltender Justin Harris gave Selkirk a chance to win. Steve Lajoie scored the only goal of the first period for Selkirk at 15:18, with Jamie Dowhayko and Brian Bate assisting. A goal by James Marquis at 7:05 of the second period stood up to be the game winner, with Travis Kornelson assisting. Jason Fleck brought Kindersley within one goal with a power-play marker at 19:37 of the second period, but a third period goal by Kyle Ladobruk at 8:40 was enough to bury the Klippers. Steven Sleep and Jearum Kurtz assisted. Kindersley scored their only goal on one of six power play chances, while Selkirk was held scoreless on nine chances. The Steelers had a chance to wrap up the series with a win last night in Kindersley. Results were unavailable at press time.
