A Flin Flon Bomber who just keeps getting better is headed to Michigan Tech next fall.
Forward Greyson Reitmeier, 20, committed to the Houghton, Mich. school last week. The Michigan Tech Huskies play at the NCAA Division I level, the highest in US college hockey.
“Playing for the Bombers is a huge reason why I have this opportunity,” Reitmeier said. “The coaching that I’ve received, along with the role that I’ve been put in this year, have definitely helped my development as a player.”
A number of NCAA Division I schools expressed interest in Reitmeier during the recruitment process, but he preferred Michigan Tech.
Bombers head coach and general manager Mike Reagan respects Reitmeier as a player and a quality person.
“He is one of the best kids that I’ve ever coached,” he said.
While focused on helping the Bombers achieve an SJHL championship, Reitmeier is looking forward to his future at Michigan Tech. He plans on majoring in business administration.
The Huskies are coached by Mel Pearson. His father, the late George (Mel) Pearson played and coached for the Bombers.
In each season of junior hockey, Reitmeier has developed his game. As a 17-year-old he posted 12 points with the BCHL’s Trail Smoke Eaters. In 2014-15, he had seven goals and 16 points with Melfort.
The Bombers got Reitmeier two summers ago in a trade for Brett Kitt. Last season, while helping
Flin Flon make it to the league final, Reitmeier increased his season scoring output to 26 points. He has well surpassed that already this season.
“Just everything he does he is better at now,” Reagan said.
