The Flin Flon Bombers went 2-0 last week to improve their record to 4-0 in December.

Flin Flon has won nine of its last 11 games. As of Dec. 13, the squad sported a 15-12-0-4 record.

“I feel that we have some really good momentum right now,” assistant coach Garry Childerhose said. “The guys are rolling.”

During the past four games the Bombers have been led by Childerhose and fellow assistant coach Chris Bortis while Flin Flon head coach Mike Reagan is serving as assistant coach for Team West at the 2015 World Junior A Challenge, which runs Dec. 13-19 in Whitby and Cobourg, ON.

Reagan said he is very happy with the job Childerhose and Bortis are doing, and with the results.

After winning four in a row at home, the Bombers hope to be successful on the road this week. They play at Sherwood Division rival La Ronge tonight, Wednesday,  and the Kindersley Klippers tomorrow,
Thursday, Dec. 17.

The Bombers take on the league’s top team in Battlefords on Saturday night, Dec. 19 before closing out their 2015 schedule in Kindersley on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Last weekend the Bombers were completely healthy for the first time since the SJHL Showcase in early October. The return of players from injury has shown in the results as of late.

Last Friday, Dec. 11 in front of 766 fans at the Whitney Forum, Brandon Switzer scored to give the Bombers a 2-1 overtime victory over the Yorkton Terriers. He took a nice bank pass from Alex Smith and put it top shelf, right under the bar. Brenden Newton stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced.

Childerhose said the victory came in spite of a sluggish start for Flin Flon.

“I think that good teams find ways to win those games,” he said.

The next night, the Bombers lit the lamp five times in the first period en route to a 7-0 victory over Melville. Zac Robidoux made 33 saves for his third shutout of the season.

“We sure came to play,”  Childerhose said. “We overwhelmed them there in the first.”

Five players scored for Flin Flon and 10 Bombers recorded points. Linemates Joel Kocur, Switzer and Smith each had four points on the night. Kocur scored a hat trick and had an assist. Switzer had a goal and three assists, while Smith recorded four helpers.

Defenceman Brandon Masson returned from injury to play for the first time since Oct. 5. He scored his first goal of the season and displayed the physical side of his game, receiving 27 penalty minutes.
