The Whitney Forum saw a different caliber of hockey this past weekend as the FFMHA Midget AA Round Robin League Play Tournament was in town. Teams from Flin Flon, The Pas, Thompson, Cross Lake and Norway House graced the ice. Flin Flon Bomber coach Greg Phair says the weekend was an overall success. ÒI think it went pretty well...and considering we were up against two (Jr) Bomber games, the crowd was pretty good,Ó he says. The Bombers, who finished the weekend with a 4-0 record, rejoined the league after leaving for three or four years. The Round Robin format enables each team in the league to play against each team and to host the tournament in their own barn. The teams travel from place to place and play each team four times a month. Phair says with the cost of things these days, ÒitÕs economically feasible to be in the tournaments.Ó Previous to being in this league, the Bombers were traveling to Saskatchewan and parts of Manitoba for tournaments, but Phair says it was expensive. ÒThis way it gives us lots of hockey plus the opportunity to travel to the Saskatchewan and Manitoba tournaments,Ó says the coach. The Midget AA Bombers will finish up their regular season before heading into playoffs, which start at the end of February. The teams will be traveling to Swan River in March for Provincials and then to Brandon for more playoffs. Phair says he suspects they will be hosting more games in March.
