The Flin Flon Curling Club held their mixed bonspiel this last weekend with 24 rinks participating. Friday at the 6:30 p.m. we started off the bonspiel by the teams being piped on to the ice surface, then long-time members Rita Chute and Barry Lofgren each threw a rock for the opening ceremony. Lots of old pictures, sweaters, brooms and bonspiel books were on display in the lounge for everyone to look back at the 75 years of curling at the club. Saturday night at the banquet, speeches were given by Ann Henry and John Faktor on their memories of curling teams and events that happened over the years. Then a social was held back up in the lounge with music by High Noon. Back on the ice, the teams played off until the finals Sunday at 2:30 p.m., with the main event winners the Patty Evans rink (third Morley Pedwell, second Cindy Rainville and lead Greg Evans). They defeated the Tony Flynn rink. Third place went to the Eric Wallaker rink, with the Sue Chrisp rink finishing fourth. The Second event winner was the Al Chatfield rink (third Darlene Winfield, second Randy Winfield, lead Sandra Chatfield). They defeated the Kent Reid rink. The third place team was the Rod Gourlay rink, with the Brian Darling finishing fourth. The Jim Quinn rink won the third event (third Lorna Rice, second Brad Liefso, lead Karen Liefso). They defeated the Richard Rebelo rink. Third in this event was the Keenan Kennedy rink, with the Hugh Quinn rink finishing fourth. Many door prizes were handed out Saturday night at the social and three big elimination draws were held. The DVD player was won by Henry Kosar, the patio table set winner was Melisa Gildenhuys and the BBQ was taken home by Darren Hynes. Meet you on the sheets next year!
