Three hundred Creighton residents participated in events like the annual Poker Walk, Treasure Walk and obstacle course during Northern Physical Activity Month. The Northern Saskatchewan month-long event helped to bring members of the community together for activities and events. Channa Senyk, recreation director with the Town of Creighton, says the events and activities went over well with good participation. "I thought it was good," said Senyk after everything was said and done. "We had to postpone (the Treasure Walk) to the following week due to the weather, (but) other than that, it was good." With the sun out one day and snow the next, a few of the activities were moved inside, but it didn't stop people from coming out to the events. With something for everyone, Senyk said the week-long activities were comparable in numbers to the previous years. Residents took part in a poker walk as well as a hacky sac challenge for students and stretch band activities for the seniors. Students from Creighton Community School were also able to compete in a hula hoop and skipping rope contest and event an obstacle course. As well, there was a Treasure Walk for the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. "I think everyone had fun," said Senyk. "They all seemed to have fun with what they were doing." For her, Senyk says the most enjoyable part was the Treasure Walk, where she was able to take children around to various locations in Creighton. For some of the children, she said, some of the businesses were new to them. As well, Senyk says she was able to hear the comments being made on the walk as well as the children pointing out things they noticed. New to the program this year, towns were encouraged to challenge surrounding communities in an event. Creighton put the challenge out to Denare Beach to see who could get more walkers in their community poker walks. It was a close call, but Creighton came out on top with 60 walkers, while the Village saw 41 out last Sunday.
