The 2004 Duathlon will take place at the Whitney Forum tomorrow, giving athletes a chance to challenge their abilities on the ice and on the track. Lots of prizes are up for grabs, as participants will run, skate and run their way to the finish line. Athletes in the 6-8 year-old category will run 1 km, skate 1 km and finish with a 1 km run. In the 9-11 year-old category, those distances will be doubled, and in the 12-14 year-old category, each participant will triple the distance. For participants 15-54, a 5 km run, 5 km skate and 5 km run will test their endurance in the full distance, but there is the option to do a half duathlon as well. Participants 55 and over will take on a 2 km run, 2 km skate and 2 km run. Individuals as well as teams and families will be participating. In the team event, the distance for each leg is determined by the age of the participant, and each team must have at least one participant over the age of 15. A helmet must be worn during the skating portion of the race, and prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers in each category.
