The 15th Annual two-day Leo Lavoie Trout Tournament was held June 19 and 20, with over $4,000 in prizes handed out to the winners. A total of 70 men and women fished Big Athapap for eight hours each day. The weather may have kept some boats at home, but despite the cold, windy weather and rough waters, a good time was had by all. Over 250 fish were entered over the two days, and director Dallas Mymko says that this was the first time in the 15 year history of the Trout Tournament that the award ceremony was held in the rain. Here are the results: 1st - Darin and Moe Balcaen, 238.5", $2,000 (Trout Festival) 2nd - Randy and Susie Boychuck, 221", $1,000 (Ginnell, Bauman and Watt) 3rd - Reg Swain and Ruth Tizzard, 220.5", $500 (Jackson Air Service) 4th - Pat and Debbie Woods, 218", $250 (Northland Ford) 5th - Luc Grenier and Greg Petryk, 217.5", $100 (Richard Beasley Tournament) 13th - Rod and Sharon Alexander, 204.5", $250 (Alexander's Auto Ranch) Smallest Entry - Wayne and Ryan Roberts, 17.5", $100 (Birchview Service) Early Bird Draw Winner - Moe and Darin Balcaen, $100.
