Some area youths were recognized last night for using their creativity to speak out against harmful behaviour. Winners of the local portion of the 2004 Elks and Royal Purple Addictions Awareness Literary, Poster and Video Contest were announced at the Elks Hall, with several of the youth on hand to accept their certificates and small cash rewards. "We are very pleased with the number and quality of the entries," said Royal Purple member Barb Hopkinson. "Since we are an organization that is aimed at benefitting children, this is a very special program." Six local entries have also won at the Manitoba level and will now be judged nationally, where the prizes range from $50 to a $1,000 scholarship.
