The RBC Financial Group cashes plenty of cheques, but on Tuesday, the bank had a cheque of its own to hand out. For the third year in a row, the bank donated $5,000 to the Flin Flon Community Youth Resource Centre through a grant program. "Certainly the funds are needed, and this is a good, safe place for kids to come to," said RBC branch manager Jeff Daly before presenting the cheque. "It's money well spent." A grateful April Head-Nickel, youth centre coordinator, praised the bank for its generosity and commitment to youth. She said the bank's donations allow the centre, operated through the Flin Flon Indian-Metis Friendship Centre, to offer more program options. Opened in 2000 in the basement of the First United Lutheran Church, the centre offers youth a wide variety of ways to spend their time. The centre is not affiliated with the church. Activities relate to cooking, sports, and cultural awareness, among others. Many evenings are designated for a specific purpose, including girls' nights, guys' nights, and movie nights. An average of 16 young people from Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach, and Cranberry Portage utilize the centre each day, said Head-Nickel. Daly encourages community groups looking for funds to log on to www.royalbank.com to learn more about RBC's charitable efforts.
